Description

Brief criticism is made of a previous editorial (Brit. Med. J., Vol. 3 No. 5674 4 Aug. 1973) concerning irradiation treatment of rheundatoid arthritis. Attention is drawn to the omission of references to European literature other than English. The dangers of the BETA emission of /sup 90/Y are mentioned, and it is pointed out that French workers use /sup 90/Y in the knees, /sup 186/Re in other large joints, and /sup 169/Er in finger joints. Mention is made of the emphasis on indndobilization of the treatcd joint, both to reduce chromosome damage and to reduce the extra-articular spread of radiocolloid after insection. (UK)
