Crystal-field excitations in polycrystalline U(Pd1-xPtx)3

Description
Neutron inelastic scattering spectra of UPd3 and U(Pd0.75Pt0.25)3 measured at IPNS are reported. The 15 meV excitation in UPd3 decreases significantly in energy and broadens with Pt substitution. We attribute this effect to increasing hybridization between the 4d and 5f electrons. (orig.)
