Description
Research conducted into the safety of light water reactors so far served as a means to improve details. Compared to former LWR concepts, the European Pressurized Water Reactor (EPR) will be the first plant whose safety concept incorporates accident management. Core meltdown studies indicate that accidents exceeding the design basis become manageable. Improved instrumentation and new emergency protection measures have greatly contributed to this possibility. Core meltdown and its management will be integral parts of future licensing procedures expected in Germany for the turn of the millenium. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
(orig.)Additional details
