Design and construction of the PF-II device
Description
This chapter describes a 22 kJ Mather-type Plasma Focus which can operate either with maximum current or with maximum energy transfer to the plasma by varying only the deuterium pressure from 1 to 6 torr. Emphasizes that the setting allows easy changes of the gun dimensions in order to shift the operation point. Points out that these features are suitable for studying the neutron production and other phenomena in a wide operation range including the intermediate and slow CS propagation regimes, without interference due to the high pressure cutoff. Discusses the design of the PF-II and gives construction details and results of preliminary tests
