On-line chemical control, reactors and heavy water plants

Description
The Gentilly-1 reactor employs several on-line analyzers, e.g. a conductivity cell and Technicon Autoanalyzer to monitor NH3 in primary coolant and a Technicon and sodium specific ion electrode to detect condenser leaks. PHW reactors employ gas strippers and a gas chromatograph to control addition of H2 or D2 to the primary coolant, to measure D2 and O2 concentrations in the moderator cover gas, and to monitor additives in the secondary cooling water. Heavy water plants require numerous monitors, e.g. for H2S content of effluents and air, D2O concentration in H2O, and for turbidity, O2 and pH in process streams. (E.C.B.)
