The Zone or Chernobyl's sons

Markijan Kamysch is the son of a so-called liquidator who was part of the rescue and clean-up teams that repaired the damage on site after the reactor accident. Since 2010, Kamysch has been conducting illegal investigations in the Chernobyl exclusion zone. He has now spent almost a year in the radiation-contaminated area around the nuclear power plant and the nearby town of Prypyat, recording his experiences. His book is the unique literary document of an exploration for which he risked his life. As the son of a first responder who died in 2003 from the effects of radiation sickness, he belongs to the "Chernobyl generation". The place that changed his family's life and that of an entire society is for him "a land of peace, frozen and timeless", where he experiences a kind of freedom that has become a space of utopia in the prisons of a totally consumerist and nihilistic society. Like a blind man, he finds his way there and takes us on a journey of discovery to the "most exotic place in the world".
