The temperature dependence of the thermo-optical properties of TAG optical ceramics

  • 1. Institute of Applied Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 46 Ul'yanov Street, 603950, Nizhny Novgorod (Russian Federation)

Description

The thermal effects of thermally-induced depolarization and a thermal lens in terbium aluminum garnet (TAG) ceramics were investigated in the temperature range 79–293 K. Thermal effects decrease considerably upon cooling to 79 K, and it is demonstrated that the thermo-optical properties of TAG ceramics are not inferior to the properties of TGG ceramics. TAG is a promising medium for Faraday isolators and cryogenic Faraday isolators. (paper)
