Y-Re-Si system and crystal structure of certain new ternary compounds of rare earth metals

  • 1. L'vovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (Ukrainian SSR)

Description

The phase composition of alloys of the system Y-Re-Si was studied and their crystalline structures determined. The spacings of the lattices of the compounds in the system Y-Re-Si were determined and adjusted from X-ray revolution patterns and the powder pattern. The diagram of phase equilibria of the system Y-Re-Si at 800 deg C was constructed. The existence of 11 new ternary compounds R2Re3Si5 (where R stands for Y, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, Cd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Er, Tm) and three compounds of the type R Re4Si2 (R = Y, Sm, Gd) was discovered. It was established that the compounds Y5Si3 and YSisub(1.56) dissolve 7 and 3 at.% Re, respectively
