Potentiometric method for the determination of boron

  • 1. Analytical Chemistry Div., Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

A potentiometric method has been developed for the determination of boron carbide, boron powder and aluminium metal using fluoroborate ion selective electrode. Analytical parameters were optimized for the quantitative conversion of boron to tetrafluoroborate ion. Boron was readily converted to tetrafluoroborate ion at room temperature under acidic conditions in presence of dilute HF as per the following reaction: H3BO3 + 4HF → BF4- + H+ + 3 H20. (author)
