Types of possible magnetohydrodynamic instabilities in a dense metal vapor plasma

Description

Short-wavelength instabilities in a moving nonideal metal vapor plasma in the presence of a magnetic field are investigated. An asymptotic method for solving the local dispersion equation in the presence of gradients in the base state and dissipative effects is presented. Linear interactions of short wavelength perturbations and some problems of their dynamics in the presence of spatial inhomogeneity of phase velocities and local increments are examined. The effect of the behavior of the electrical conductivity, specific to a nonideal plasma, on the conditions for excitation of different types of waves is studied. The regions of existence and mechanisms of acoustic, thermal, and vortex instabilities of a nonideal plasma flowing in a channel with a constant transverse cross-section are determined
