Leak-before-break in French nuclear power plants

Description

The paper discussed on-going LBB programs in France. Practical applications of LBB at the present time are quite limited in French nuclear reactors. Some fracture mechanics studies that are complete involve cracks in gas graphite reactor piping systems, primary and auxiliary line pipes in Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR), steam generator tubes in PWRs, and pipes and main pressure vessels in liquid metal fast breeder reactors. The authors state that, although practical applications are currently limited, the French are determined to define a complete validated methodology
