Sizewell 'B' - the first of the UK PWR power stations
Description
On 1 April 1987 the Sizewell 'B' project was finally given the go-ahead, the task being to build Britain's first pressurized water reactor (PWR) nuclear power station. Although based on the Westinghouse four-loop design, the station will have many unique features to accommodate operational and safety requirements within the United Kingdom. The Conference on 'Sizewell 'B' - The First of the UK PWR Power Stations', held in Manchester during September 1989, and organized by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, provided the opportunity for contractors and the project's management team to discuss the ways in which these requirements are being met. There are twenty-seven papers from the different sessions, all indexed separately. Sessions included: PWR Power Stations for the UK, Power Station Design and Safety Assurance, Nuclear Systems, Turbine Generator Systems, Control Systems, Nuclear Components, Equipment Qualification and Containment Design.
