Construction and performance characterization of the cyclotron ion source testing device

Description
A device to test a homemade ion source has been constructed, and the experiments have been conducted to observe the characteristics of the device. The experiments are intended to determine whether the system was ready for testing to determine the optimum operating parameters of the ion source. Observations have been made to the performance of a component by component and also to the performance of device system. The test results indicate that the device is able to test the ion source with the vacuum condition of 5 x 10-6 Torr. the plasma ionization luminescence can be observed, the maximum magnetic field at the center of the ionization of 1,000 gauss. Gas supply unit has abnormality in its opening value to start the flow of gas, but the performance still be consistent. With these data it can be concluded that the device is ready for basic experiments in order to determine the optimum parameters of operation of the ion source. (author)
