Relative response of various solid state nuclear track detectors for measuring gamma dose

  • 1. Banaras Hindu Univ., Varanasi (India). Dept. of Physics

Description

Solid State Nuclear Track Detectors have very great potential for application in various fields of science and technology. In the present work, we have used three different track detectors (cellulose nitrate, Lexon, Triafol) for measuring high gamma doses. The detector foils were irradiated with a 60Co-source. The optical density of each foil was measured using a Cary Recording Spectrophotometer. The changes in optical density of each detector foil due to different irradiation times have been found to be linear. The results obtained can be used to measure unknown gamma doses in the range 1 x 10-2 to 6 x 10-2 Mrads. (author)
