The Green and the Pink: the weight of environment and social policy upon French Green activists
Description
Since the last general elections (1997), the French Green Party belongs to the 'Majorite plurielle', a coalition unifying the Communist party, the Socialist party and the Greens. It has been very often said that the Green Party is for now more concerned with social issues (unemployment, immigration.) than with environmental issues (Greenhouse effect, nuclear plants.). Using the results of a survey conducted among a sample of members of the French Green movement, this paper tries to check this hypothesis: are the Greens more interested in social values than in environmental ones? Is this phenomenon due to the newly recruited members or is that a result of a more general evolution?
