Design, development and testing of the TN-24 dry storage cask
Description
The TN-24 storage cask design is based on a significant operating experience base with transport cask systems. The development of the design has included the licensing effort as well as the fabrication of a test model and prototype. The model and prototype have been subjected to extensive design verification testing, not only for storage applications, but also for transport. In addition, the TN-24P prototype cask system has been successfully tested at INEL as part of DOE's spent fuel storage demonstration program. The results of the development and testing programs for the TN-24 show that the basic design is conservative with respect to storage requirements and that advancements are possible to enhance the economics of dry cask storage
