Description

The composition of the nonmetallic phase in nitrated alloys of the Fe-Mn-V system was studied by the methods of petrography and local microspectral analysis. The formation of three nitride phases was established; one of them is close to vanadium nitride, the second is a complex vanadium-titanium-containing nitride and the third, manganese siliconitride. Vanadium nitrides predominate in alloys nitrated in the solid state; vanadium-titanium-containing nitrides are typical of alloys nitrated in the liquid state in a plasma furnace; the siliconitride phase is typical of alloys with an increased silicon content. No separate manganese nitride phase was detected, which may be due to the relatively low content of nitrogen in the alloys. It was established that carbon changes the ratio between the nitride and carbonitride phases as its content in nitrated alloys of the Fe-Mn-V system increases
