is a drop in nuclear power share likely to increase CO2 emissions?

Description
One of the aims of the French energy policy is to reduce the share of nuclear energy in power production to 50% instead of today's 80%. This aim appears to be feasible by 2025 if fossil power plants are kept operating and if new gas-fired combined cycle power plants are put into service but the objective of the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions would then be jeopardized. The compensation with renewable energies is not possible as these energies have already an ambitious development program that is often slowing down by administrative complexity and court actions. The only solution is to postpone the date in order to get a more progressive reduction of the nuclear share in the French energy mix. (A.C.)
