Setbacks and successes of transient field physics
- 1. Rutgers--the State Univ., New Brunswick, NJ (USA)
Description
The application of the transient field technique to the measurement of magnetic moments of short-lived excited nuclear states is reviewed in the light of recent calibrations. New measurements of the magnetic moments of the 21+ states of Sm and Nd isotopes support suggestions of a sub-shell closure at Z=64. A measurement of the g-factor of the 41+ state of 20Ne together with a reinterpretation of the data, yield g(41+)=0.49(34)
