Station blackout in US light-water nuclear reactors
Description
Station blackout refers to a hypothetical sequence of events that leads to the loss of all offsite and onsite a-c power sources at a pressurized-water reactor (PWR) or boiling-water reactor (BWR). Work supporting the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's resolution of station blackout as an unresolved safety issue is reviewed. A portion of the work, specifically deterministic plant analyses for the period from sequence initiation to the beginning of core heatup, is reported in detail for a PWR of each major reactor vendor and for a BWR
