Gamma ray dosimetric studies on CR-39 detector
Description
Attempts have been made to explain the structural changes taking place in allyl diglycol carbonate polymer (CR-39) detector as a result of gamma ray irradiation in the dose range 1-500 Mrad based on the ultra violet, visible and infrared spectra of the irradiated samples. The spectra shows that the inter-chain separation is not affected by gamma ray irradiation and the cross-linking after the irradiation damage has broken the chemical bonds, is negligible. It is also observed that in CR-39 detector, there exists a tendency for saturation in structural changes but at higher doses. The variation of bulk etch rate with gamma dose in the 10-50 Mrad range has also been investigated. It is found that the ratio of the bulk etch rate of irradiated to unirradiated [VG(D)/VG(O)] detectors is linearly dependent on dose. (author). 14 refs., 3 figs., 2 tabs
