Activities at the NEA for dosimetry applications

Description

The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) is a specialised agency within the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) that assists its member countries in maintaining and further developing, through international co-operation, the scientific and technological use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The main role of NEA is the collection, validation and distribution of basic nuclear data, computer codes covering the areas of nuclear research and engineering, and experimental data. The activities linked to dosimetry applications are described in this paper, such as those of the Working Party on international nuclear data Evaluation Co-operation (WPEC) established at the NEA to promote the exchange of nuclear data evaluations, measurements, nuclear model calculations and validation. Collection, validation, and distribution of the computer codes and nuclear data libraries, in particular the Joint Evaluated Fusion and Fission (JEFF) library project will be presented. For the verification of activation and transport nuclear data, as well as computational methods, several integral experiments databases are collected and distributed by the Data Bank, for example the Shielding Integral Benchmark Archive Database (SINBAD) database, the International Criticality Safety Benchmark Experiments Project (ICSBEP) and the International Reactor Physics Experiments (IRPhE). Another important activity at the NEA is the collection of experimental differential nuclear reaction data for the database EXFOR. A recent WPEC project emphasizes on the need of a coherent format that could be used for computer code calculations and improved validation of experimental data. The graphical visualization tool JANIS was also found useful for checking of the content of EXFOR. (author)
