Influence of atropine on cystamine effects in rats

Description
The degree of protection afforded by cystamine (60 mg/kg i.p.) against radiation injuries of bone marrow of 4 - 5 weeks old rats was decreased by treatment with atropine (2 mg/kg i.p.) 20 minutes before irradiation. The exogenous spleen colonies observed on the 10th day after transplantation of tested bone marrow in preirradiated recipients served as a criterion of the efficiency of the protective combination. Vagus system activation may be important for cystamine radioprotective effects on the hemopoiesis in rats. (author)
