Charge transfer in optical diagnostics

  • 1. Inst. of Laser Physics, Novosibirsk (Russian Federation)

Description

As it's known a charge transfer (CT) process induces a quasi-resonance luminosity of certain optical lines of ions. This luminosity doesn't depend on a plasma temperature and is determined only by the concentration of reagents and their relative velocity. Thus if a laser-produced plasma moves through the background gas its luminosity in certain lines will be proportional to ion's concentration. To realize it in practice a gas density must be not too high (ion's CT-free-path in gas must be greater than the experimental scale) and not too low (CT-luminosity must be exceeds initial recombination luminosity). A new method has been used in the experiments on laser-produced plasma interaction with uniform and non-uniform (dipole) magnetic fields. A set of corresponding plasma's images in this conditions have been obtained (by 50ns-framing in CIV-line) which give quantitative information about ion's spatial distributions
