Excitation of high order diocotron modes in the ELTRAP device

Description
The excitation of l = 2,3 diocotron modes in a trapped pure electron plasma with external time varying electrostatic wall asymmetries is experimentally investigated. Direct measurements of the resistive destabilization of the l = 2 diocotron mode are presented. The experimental results are well described by a two dimensional (2D) cold fluid model.
