Container for the transport of radioactive waste

When the outer faces of the waste drums for slightly radioactive wastes exhibited a radiation dose of more than 200 mrem/h, the transport to the final storage site was very expensive. For preventing this, it is suggested to surround the waste vessel with a pilable shielding vessel of concrete easy to manufacture and to transport which is also left at the final storage site. The shielding vessel consists of a concrete pot open at its upper side, with carrying loops in its wall. In these loops, a cross piece is introduced when lifting or lowering the shielding vessel.
