How do regulatory organisations meet public expectations
Creators
Description
This paper explains NII's role, as the UK's nuclear regulatory body, with respect to life extension studies and decommissioning of licensed nuclear power plants. It sets down the objectives of Long Term Safety Reviews (LTSRs) carried out on the UK's Magnox gas reactors and identifies the areas which the LTSRs covered. The paper then explains how the NII informed others of the results of its assessment of the licensees LTSRs through, mainly, the publishing of individual reports. These reports gave NII's position on particular issues, identified further work which was required and included target dates for completion of the work. The report finally discusses how information concerning decommissioning activities has been provided. (author). 6 refs
