Description
Chemical analyses of fruits of a gamma-ray induced curved spine mutant, its tetraploid, and a spiny tetraploid of Solanum khasianum revealed about 35-50 % higher solasodine in the tetraploids than in the diploid. Studies on agronomical aspects indicated a superiority of the mutant tretraploid over a spiny tetraploid. It is suggested that this superiority may arise from the additional heterozygosity introduced by the cumulative effects of colchicine and radiation. (author)
