Statement on the 2016 nuclear waste disposal program of those responsible for the waste disposal

This report published by the Swiss Nuclear Safety Inspectorate ENSI presents its opinions on the 2016 waste disposal plans published by those responsible for the disposal. The report reviews the requirements and aims of the disposal program, describes the origins, types and amounts of radioactive wastes and the geological deep repositories planned. The allocation of the various types of wastes to the repositories is discussed and the plan for the realisation of the deep repositories is examined, as is the interim storage of the radioactive wastes. The associated research and development plan is looked at. Finally, the evaluation made by ENSI is summarised.
