Decomposition of austenite in an iron--cobalt--molybdenum alloy
Description
The heat treatment characteristics and mechanical properties of an Fe--20 percent Co-- 5 percent Mo were investigated. Two laboratory melts were made in which a difference in deoxidation procedure resulted in differences in residual C and O content. The similar transformation characteristics of the melts are described along with the effects of C content. The melt containing the greater C content showed lower martensitic transformation temperature, higher yield strength, and neater toughness. (JRD)
