Transient boiling heat transfer for exponential heat input under forced convection

Description
Measurement is made of the transient maximum heat flux with a fine platinum wire of 1.2 mm dia. suspended in water flowing upward in a vertical round tube. Heat generation rate of the wire is increased exponentially with time using a computer system. Experimental results indicate that the transient maximum heat flux increases with an increase of flow velocity, pressure, and subcooling, and also by decreasing the period for exponential heat generation rate. An empirical correlation is presented to predict transient maximum heat flux. It correlates the present experimental data to +-30% error. (author)
