Imaging in pancreas transplantation
Description
Real-time sonography, scintigraphy, and CT scanning were used to examine 26 patients who underwent combined renal and pancreas transplantation between February 1983 and April 1987. In addition, 16 patients were examined by Doppler US. Complications included rejection (eight), vascular occlusion (five), hemorrhage (five), pancreatitis (seven), and abscess (eight). The various examining methods differed in their ability to demonstrate these complications. Sonography showed rejection best in seven of the eight, and pancreatitis in seven of seven. CT showed hemorrhage in three of five and abscess in eight US and perfusion scintigraphy were complementary in showing vascular occlusion
