Comparative study of advanced IR transmissive materials

Description
Six advanced MWIR transmissive materials have been selected for a comprehensive investigation to measure and compare their optical and mechanical properties. The six materials are: sapphire; AlON (5AlN*9Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/); cubic zirconia (ZrO/sub 2/*9.4%mo Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/); spinel (MgO*Al/sub 2/O/sub 3/) fabricated by three processes; lanthana-doped yttria (Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/*9%La/sub 2/O/sub 3/) fabricated by three processes; and yttria (Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/). The following experiments have been performed on samples of each material: thermal variation of transmittance, thermal variation of fracture strength, and color center absorption. A summary of the measured data is presented for each material
