Synthesis of the IRSN report on the organisation and human and technical means foreseen by EDF for the control of the Flamanville 3 reactor (EPR-FA3). Opinion of organisational, human and technical means for the control of the Flamanville EPR reactor (EPR-FA3)

A synthesis addresses the characteristics and stakes of the activity of control of a nuclear reactor (more particularly the Flamanville 3 EPR reactor), evokes the computerization and some innovating characteristics of the EPR control, proposes an overview of test campaigns performed on a simulator (performed campaigns, new tests to be performed), describes the approach adopted by the IRSN to examine control means and indicates criteria used to assess test results. It also addresses the organisation and control means in normal operation (evolutions which are still to be assessed, modification propositions not retained by EDF, postponed improvements, risk management related to a fire during normal operation, risk management related to hydrogen explosion) and in incidental and accidental operations (evolutions which are still to be assessed, points of attention for the fourth test campaign), the control in case of dysfunction of the main control mean, and the incidental and accidental control by using the backup control mean. Other documents are those produced by the ASN and the Permanent Group of Experts on nuclear reactors on these issues, and which defined the framework of the IRSN study
