Interactive three-dimensional chart of the nuclides

  • 1. University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta (Canada)

Description

This report describes a new, online chart of the nuclides created to emphasize trends of stability and decay type. This is done by using colour to indicate decay type and implementing a three-dimensional view where height corresponds to mass per nucleon. Interactive features are also provided, allowing users to move around the three-dimensional chart and click on nuclides to see decay chains represented with arrows. It is suggested that this new chart of the nuclides can be used to help familiarize novice users with basic concepts in nuclear science such as stability and decay. (author)
