Cryogenic separation of nitrogen and oxygen in air for determination of isotopic ratios by mass spectrometry

  • 1. Univ. of California, San Diego, La Jolla

Description

A cryogenic separation system has been developed for the quantitative separation of nitrogen and oxygen for high-precision mass spectrometric isotopic determinations. The system is unique in that it does not require conversion of oxygen to CO2 which allows determination of the 17O/16O ratio. Nitrogen and oxygen isotopic ratios obtained are identical with those previously reported for air values. 6 references, 1 table
