Description
We study the energy dependence of the cross section for the coherent Coulomb excitation of relativistic nuclei traversing crystals. It is shown that with increasing energy total coherence sets in, which leads to an increase of the excitation cross section quadratic in the number of atoms. The growth of the cross section is not due to any resonance condition. A space--time interpretation of this phenomenon is given
