The influence of VC additions on the sintering of Ta-carbonitride based hard metals

Description
The influence of VC additions to the Ta(C,N)-Ni base hard metals was studied, especially regarding sintering behaviour, microstructure development and phase relationships. VC addition were shown to inhibit the densification rate during the solid state sintering step. However, lower eutectic temperature and increased densification rate during the rearrangement process decrease the sintering temperature of Ta(C,N)-Ni alloys. Besides, inhibited grain growth and improvement hardness of the composite confirm the positive influence of VC additions to the Ta(C,N) based hard metals. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Der Einfluss von VC-Zusaetzen zu Ta(C,N) Nickelbasis-Hartmetallen wurde untersucht. Untersuchungsgegenstand waren das Sinterverhalten, die Mikrostrukturentwicklung und Phasenbeziehungen. Ein VC-Zusatz hemmte die Verfestigungsrate waehrend des Sinterns in der festen Phase. Die Sintertemperatur von Ta(C,N)-Ni-Legierungen wird durch eine niedrigere eutektische Temperatur und eine erhoehte Verdichtungsrate waehrend des Umordnungsprozesses verringert. Das gehemmte Kornwachstum und die groessere Haerte des Verbundmaterials bestaetigen den positiven Einfluss von VC-Zusaetzen auf Ta(C,N)-Basis-Hartmetalle. (orig.)Additional details
