Groundwater protection by a plastic sealing sheet below the foundation of the OLEFIN IV plant of Veba Oel AG/Ruhr Oel GmbH, Gelsenkirchen

Description

Safety is provided by a buried plastic sheet. Leak detection is easy and rather accurate. The company hopes to shorten the licensing period by this proof of safety. The cost of the sealing system is not unrealistically high as compared with other alternatives, and the technical labour involved is acceptable and can be reduced further by selecting the laying depth appropriately. The solution is recommended especially for sites outside urban agglomerations, where there is no need to take account of existing buildings. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Eine tief verlegte KDB bietet Sicherheit, wobei durch das Drainagesystem Leckagen schnell und relativ genau geortet werden koennen. Von diesen Vorteilen wird sich auch eine Genehmigungsbehoerde leichter ueberzeugen lassen, was das Genehmigungsverfahren beschleunigen und wertvolle Zeit sparen kann. Die Kosten, insbesondere im Vergleich mit Alternativloesungen, sind nicht unrealistisch hoch, und der Einfluss auf das Anlagenengineering ist gering und laesst sich durch geschickte Wahl der Verlegetiefe der KDB weiter verringern. Damit ist diese Art der Abdichtung eine sehr empfehlenswerte Loesung, zumindest dort, wo wie im vorliegenden Fall ''in die gruene Wiese'', das heisst ohne Ruecksicht auf bestehende Installationen, gebaut werden kann.
