Annual report 1974

New important topics in the research and development programme in the year 1974 were the determination and assessment of the radiation effect on the population due to external and internal radiation sources, as well as improvements of concepts, methods and standards of radiation protection and radiation measuring technique. In addition to studies on environmental radioactivity, investigations on the determination of chemitoxic metals in environmental samples were continued. A newly formed work group 'Internal Exposition' began with investigations on the deposition and retention of aerosols in the respiratory tract. Studies, amongst others, on physical primary processes of radiation effects, the dosimetry of photons and neutrons, aerosol deposition as well as on-trace analysis in air dust were continued in the framework of research contracts. The project on the investigation of the natural radiation load of the population was concluded. Work on automatic image analysis of cytological and histological preparates was continued. The development programme was adapted according to the new guidelines. (ORU/LH)
