OECD Acute Toxicity Testing

The Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is an international economic organization established in Dec 1960 with the aim of stimulating economic progress, and fighting poverty and ensuring that the impact of development is always protected. The OECD publishes economic reports, statistical databases, analyzes and projections for global economic growth. The OECD also outlines many guidelines for economic growth. The OECD is also responsible for issuing guidelines for tests required for drug development, particularly in toxicity studies. For the Acute Toxicity Study using mice, the OECD has outlined three types of tests; (1) OECD420 - Fixed Dose procedure, (2) OECD 423 - Acute Toxic Class and (3) OECD 425 - Up and Down Procedure [1].
