Description

If electrolytic hydrogen is produced in large quantities, half as many moles of O2 are produced as H2. While it can be harmlessly vented, it seems more prudent to explore its possible large-sale utilization. It could be important in abating the cost of changing over to a hydrogen energy economy. Such uses include better fuel utilization and reduction of noxious emissions in combustion, air beneficiation, and bulk industrial applications. Analysis suggests that the industrial gases industry may become an important early mover towards the hydrogen economy (for reasons of self-preservation). (author)
