The Ministry of Social Affairs (Sosialdepartement), under the powers delegated to it in the law of 18th June 1938, on the use of X-radiation and radium (see INIS RN 074650), issued regulations dated 23rd January 1976, which authorise and require Statens Institutt for Straalehygiene (SIS, the State Institute for Radiation Hygiene) to inspect and licence all irradiation plants, radiation sources and radioactive materials, including radar, lasers and microwave radiation devices, and other sources of electromagnetic radiation harmfull to health, which are used for medical, veterinary, scientific, industrial or other purposes. Exceptions to these requirements are defined. SIS is authorised to receive payment of a licencing fee. These regulations replace the earlier regulations of 22nd October 1948. (JIW)
