Description

The crystal structures of perovskites of the formula ALaMnFeO6 (A=Ca, Sr, Ba) have been characterised by powder X-ray, neutron powder diffraction and Mossbauer spectroscopy. Both CaLaMnFeO6 and BaLaMnFeO6 were found to crystallise in orthorhombic symmetry (space group Pbnm), whereas SrLaMnFeO6 was rhombohedral (space group R3-barc). No evidence of phase transformation or magnetic structure was noticed in the low-temperature (10 K) neutron diffraction measurements. The Moessbauer parameters indicate that iron is present in Fe3+ high-spin (d5 configuration) state in octahedral coordination
