Studies on the reduction process of Cu2O in an electric furnace using radiotracers
Description
The reduction process of Cu2O in an electric furnace has been investigated by means of radioisotopes. 64Cu in various chemical forms was used as a tracer. Radiometric measurements of samples and complementary chemical quantitative analyses allowed to determine the degrees of reduction and decoppering at any stage of the reduction process. A material balance has been drawn up and the distribution of copper among the products determined. Using the data obtained, the possible mechanism of the decoppering process and its kinetic parameters are discussed. (author)
