Description
We report magnetization and resistance measurements on the intermetallic alloy UCu2Ge2. Two magnetic transitions are shown, a paramagnetic to ferromagnetic one at 110 K followed at 65 K by a transition to an antiferromagnetic state. The moment per U atom was found to be 2.65 ± 0.05 μB in the paramagnetic regime. We interpret the existence of two of the temperature magnetic phases in terms of competing interactions which can be described simply by an ANNNI model. (author)
