Some aspects of development and test of packagings used for nuclear power radioactive wastes transportation
Description
The transportation step is included in that part of the radwaste localization system, which requires an active participation of a man. This kind of activity is performed beyond the protective zone boundaries, in most cases by roads of general use and by the personnel of the Ministry of Railways of the USSR, who are not specialists in the field of radwaste handling, which is the reason for the increased risk of the potential exposure of personnel and public in normal transportation conditions and in accident radionuclide release into environment. The transportation features, large scope, multiaspect and relative novelty of the problem, high safety criteria specified in National Rules determine the approaches, main principles and requirements for the development and test of radwaste shipping packagings and for the whole complex of works for the purpose of providing a radiologically, technically feasible and economically reasonable transportation system.
