Perpendicular magnetic recording media using hexagonal ferrite thin films deposited on Pt underlayers and interlayers
Description
Ba ferrite (BaM) thin films with excellent c-axis orientation were deposited on Pt(1 1 1) underlayers using Facing Targets Sputtering system. BaM thin films with extremely low thickness, as thin as 8 nm, exhibited apparent c-axis orientation. Such thin BaM layers exhibited small grain size. BaM/Pt multilayered structure was also effective to introduce exchange interaction among BaM crystallites
