μe-universality violation effects in muon pair production in colliding electron-positron beams

Description

Muon pair production in colliding electron-positron beams is studied assuming that the weak-interaction constants of the electron and the muon are different. General expressions for the total and differential cross sections which are valid at any beam energies are obtained taking into account simultaneously the arbitrary polarizations of the initial particles and the muon (μ-) longitudinal polarization. It is shown that effects of possible μe-universality violation of the weak interaction can be detected by studying certain polarization characteristics of the reaction. These effects are analyzed on the basis of unified gauge SU(2) x U(1) models of the weak and electromagnetic interactions
