Description

Intracavitary administration of labelled antibodies has met with some appararent success. The rationale of this approach is to avoid the dilution, dissociation and catabolism experienced following intravenous administration and by placing the labelled antibody directly into the cavity the chances of it reaching its target may be enhanced. This form of therapy has been attempted for the treatment of peritoneal disease in ovarian cancer and in the pallation of malignant pleural and pericardial effusions. An experimental model has been used to show a fifty fold increase and faster localisation of intraperitoneally administered antibody compared to intravenous administration
